Meeting the SMF

Don’t ask me what this means, AND it is NOT the filthy words that comes to your mind when you see it.

When I came to the University I met this crazy bunch of people (to be exact it was 17) who were so interested in traveling and exploring new things.

This group had people from all over the country, so we got the rare chance of visiting most of the areas in Sri Lanka.

We have shared years of great memories. 17 is now down to 10. Even with the Children, Families, Busy Day jobs, we still find time to explore and continue what we started years back.

Anjelo Michel Warnakulasuriya– Our departed friend who was From Chilaw.

He was the one who was so excited to travel and took the first step in Teaching Students in Rural Areas. We all have thousands of wonderful memories with him. One of the bravest people I have ever met in my life. It was a privilege being friends with him.

Harshana Perera – From Colombo.
This guy loves to play rugger and when we take a picture, He MUST immediately see it. And he has a nice pose for photos.

Lasitha Benaragama  - From Ambilipitiya.

Talks A LOT. Really funny guy with a good sense of humor.

Amila Kandambi – From Colombo.
But it took 2 hours for him to reach home. Still his home was in Colombo District.

Asran Mohomad – From Kurunegala.

Even if we were from the same city, I got to know Asran when I came to the University.

Jayanath Karunarathne – From Kandy.
We still do not know how he come up with all those Ideas. You have to meet him and see.

Shashika Gunawardena – From Kandy.

He is Short. But no one can challenge him in anything. Great Sense of humor.

Kanishka Panamaldeniya – From Kandy.

He wears Spectacles. Some say he uses them as telescopes.

Dinuka Thilshan – From Awissawella.

The DRIVER. Every single trip, He was driving. He Owned a Van, which later became OUR VAN.

Chanaka Sisira Kumara – From Rathnapura.
If he promised you that he will join you for something. He definitely will NOT come. But never missed a single Rural Teaching Workshop. Still missed a few trips.

Nalaka Sampath– From Alawwa.

He is so silent. Gets angry so easily. But he will punish himself for anything we did. So we never had to worry.

Finally About Me - Thilina Chandrathilaka - From Kurunegala

As you can see in the picture (which was captured in 2007) I am a really silent guy who love to meditate.

Just kidding...! I am a fun and caring person who love to make new friends and Travel

How I Became a Traveler

My Parents
Amma and Appachchi traveled a lot when they were young. I grew up listing to their crazy stories about the trips they went with their friends in Motor Bikes. They had this Bike Club kind of a thing, on weekends all of them got in to their bikes and traveled to where ever they wanted to go. These were Married couples traveling in bikes through Sri Lanka in 70’s or 80’s..
How cool would that have been ?

Re-visiting All the Places
When we were old enough, they made sure to take us to all those places they went as a young couple and shared the old stories.

As a family we went somewhere every two or three months. Most of the time their friends joined us as families too.

This is My Sister trying to shoot something other than me :)
